Vehicle License Plates and Auto Tags

When you establish residency in Florida, you also must obtain Florida license plates or tags for your vehicle(s). A Florida license tag is required within ten days of establishing residency, employment, or a child's enrollment in school in Florida. Florida is a no-fault insurance state. Personal injury protection and liability coverage is required by law. Individuals registering vehicles must pay an initial registration fee of $100, a tag fee and a title charge. Bring your title, registration, and proof of insurance to the Tag Office at the Tax Collector's Office at which time an odometer reading will also be taken. In addition to the standard tags, a number of specialty tags are available at an additional charge. Your tag expires on your birthday.

Applying for Service

Simply call (772) 462-1150 to initiate service. Please be prepared to provide your service and mailing addresses, home phone number, driver’s license number or Tax Identification Number – for identification purposes, and account number of any existing account. A deposit maybe required. All deposits are refunded with interest, after 24 months of satisfactory credit.

If you are requesting service at a location that has never had water service, it will be necessary to complete an application and pay any required fees. They will send a service worker to install a meter and turn the service on within 10 working days of the application. If water is already being provided to your new address, a service worker will be sent to turn on water and read the meter. This meter reading will be used to calculate your first bill. The Utilities require one day advance notice or a same day turn-on fee will be required.

Someone should be at the new service address the day water is scheduled to be turned on. Fixtures may have been left in the On position and could cause flooding and water damage. If no one is at home, the service worker will turn the water service off if the meter dial is moving. A door hanger will be left explaining that you will have to contact the Customer Service Center to reschedule a visit and an additional $20 service charge will be applied to your bill.

Terminating Service

If you are moving from one location in the St. Lucie County Utilities’ service area to another, you can terminate service at your old address and commence service at your new address with one telephone call. Service workers will be sent to read both meters. You will need to provide requested identification and your new service address. You will receive a final bill on the old account indicating a balance due. If you to not currently have a deposit, but do have a good credit history with the Utility, a deposit may not be required for your new address. If you are moving outside our service area and have a deposit on account, it will be credited toward your final bill. You may then receive a refund or a bill indicating a balance due. You will also need to schedule a final meter reading and provide a forwarding address. This is important, as you are the customer of record and will be responsible for all usage until St. Lucie County Utilities has been notified of the change. The Utilities requires one-day advance notice for terminating or transferring service.

Seasonal Customers

Customers who are in residence for only part time are required to pay the base service charge during their absence. For customers that request their meter to be locked off and inactivated there is a $20 fee and the base charge for their absence will be back billed if they reactivate their service within a 12 month period along with a $20 turn on fee. Customers concerned about leaving their meter on during extended absences from their residence can have their meter locked off, but keep the account open and have the base charge billed monthly to their current address.
